A gentle answer refuses to add unnecessary heat, but it can still be clear. Jesus was tender with the vulnerable and direct with hypocrisy. Biblical gentleness is never permission for someone to harm you.
Before a difficult conversation, ask what is true, what is necessary, and what tone best serves love. A pause may be wise. So may a firm boundary.
